Signant SmartSignals ID Portal: Centralized Identity & Access Management

Spearheaded end-to-end UX architecture and design systems for enterprise clinical trial platforms (eCOA/RTSM), reducing data friction and regulatory compliance hurdles for global clinical sites.

Executive Summary & Overview

Project Scope:
Developed a centralized, secure identity platform and Single Sign-On (SSO) landing page to consolidate access across the entire Signant Health product portfolio over a targeted enterprise initiative.
Core Impact:
Eliminated the friction of managing multiple credentials across studies and sponsors, enhanced enterprise security compliance via multi-factor authentication, and streamlined administrative user provisioning.
My Role:
Led the end-to-end UX architecture, role-based workflow mapping, and portal interface design from initial stakeholder alignment to multi-application integration planning.

1. The Challenge: Fragmented Credentials and Administrative Overhead

In complex clinical trials involving numerous disparate systems, users were historically forced to juggle multiple sets of login credentials across various studies, sponsors, and products. This caused massive administrative friction, increased password-reset support volume, and introduced potential security vulnerabilities.

- The core challenge was designing a unified Single Sign-On (SSO) ecosystem and centralized dashboard that balanced rigorous enterprise-grade security protocols (such as Okta-powered MFA) with an ultra-intuitive, personalized navigation experience for diverse user roles.
- The core challenge was designing a centralized Identity Portal that balanced rigorous, enterprise-grade security protocols with an ultra-intuitive user experience that minimized friction and eliminated delays in site activation.

2. The Process: Unified Navigation & Role-Based Access Mapping

To streamline the user experience while maintaining stringent compliance across a wide array of specialized health applications:

- Centralized Navigation: Designed a common header and standardized app-switcher framework to ensure seamless movement between clinician ratings, study management, eConsent, and reporting tools.

- Role-Based Customization: Mapped out administrator controls and self-service account consolidation features, allowing sponsor organizations and administrators to manage permissions and federated access efficiently.

- Personalized Dashboard Experience: Structured the portal interface to feature personalized welcome messages, application icons, favorites, inbox notifications, and upcoming calendar events.
We utilized Claude to rapidly analyze complex compliance guidelines, synthesize role-based permission matrices, and draft clear user-facing authentication error states. Additionally, we leveraged Make to prototype automated user-provisioning workflows and role-assignment triggers, enabling us to test multi-tenant access logic and friction points before writing production code.

3. The Solution: A Secure, Single Sign-On Enterprise Hub

The final ID Portal delivered a seamless entry point for the entire Signant Health ecosystem:

- Frictionless SSO Access: Enabled users to access all permitted applications using a single, secure username and password.

- Robust Multi-Factor Authentication: Integrated secure login capabilities via email, SMS, or Okta Verify authenticators.

- Scalable Foundation: Established a unified landing experience capable of supporting future expansions such as centralized universal search, global notifications, and cross-platform integrations.
The resulting design married uncompromising data security with an elegant user experience, setting a new benchmark for enterprise healthcare identity management.
