Project Scope:
Consolidated separate legacy touchpoints into a high-performance, contemporary application built using the Flutter framework, supporting both ongoing and new clinical studies across iOS, Android, and web delivery environments.
Core Impact:
Delivered a modernized user experience featuring biometrics, dark mode, and offline-first data synchronization, significantly reducing participant friction and enhancing data compliance for clinical trial sites.
My Role:
Led the end-to-end UX architecture, UI component redesign, and cross-platform interaction workflows from initial protocol configuration specifications to final multi-device implementation.

1. Upgrading Legacy eCOA Interfaces Without Disrupting Compliance

Clinical trial participants rely on eDiary applications daily to complete diaries, review training modules, and manage study parameters. However, older frameworks lacked modern conveniences such as biometric security, seamless theme adjustments, and flexible multi-device accessibility, creating unnecessary friction for users.

- The primary challenge was modernizing the entire user interface and expanding protocol flexibility (supporting the new App UI 2026 Modern protocol alongside Classic protocols) while adhering to strict regulatory requirements and ensuring reliable offline data capture.
- The primary challenge was bridging these disjointed touchpoints into a cohesive ecosystem without violating strict regulatory compliance standards or adding cognitive load to clinical staff managing high-pressure trials.

2. The Process: Rapid Synthesis & Modern Protocol Mapping

- Workflow Optimization: Mapped out the streamlined activation flow—guiding new participants through PIN setup, security questions, biometrics, and password creation, while allowing returning users quick access via PIN.

- Component Standardization: Redesigned core UI elements including buttons, tiles, form inputs, and bottom bar menus, ensuring standard OS keyboard behavior and dark mode compatibility.

- Configuration Alignment: Coordinated closely with TrialStudio configurations to ensure seamless switching between Modern and Classic protocols depending on study requirements.
Using Claude, we rapidly analyzed complex user feedback logs, synthesized multi-channel clinical workflow constraints, and generated architectural content structures. Additionally, we leveraged Make to prototype automated data-sync logic between mock workflows, allowing us to rapidly test how site coordinators and patients would transition between tasks across devices. This iterative loop allowed us to streamline user journeys from concept to interactive wireframes in record time.

The final TrialMax Flutter modern app delivered an advanced, highly polished interface tailored for modern clinical trials:

- Enhanced Usability: Integrated biometric authentication (fingerprint/face recognition), dynamic dark mode toggling, and comprehensive profile management (reminders, contact details, theme preferences).

- Robust Offline Capability: Ensured participants can record daily diaries and data offline with automatic synchronization upon reconnecting.

- Flexible Delivery: Enabled multi-platform accessibility across iOS, Android, and browser-based environments with responsive layouts and web-specific behaviors.
